Successfully growing a farm often takes more than just one person with a green thumb. It requires a capable and resourceful team that is wholly invested in the effort. However, not every farmer has such a ‘team’ at his disposal. It was with this realization—and a hope to fulfil this need—that Good Brothers’ Agricultural Services Public Co. Ltd. (ASP) was founded.
With the backing of 268 shareholders and the Myanmar Investment Commission, ASP opened its doors in 2016 with the goal to help solve labor shortage and production problems in the farming industry. Mainly operating in the Ayeyarwady Division, ASP offers services ranging from ploughing, planting, harvesting, storing, and even technical and technological support to help improve farming productivity.
With the rise of smart/precision farming worldwide, ASP has likewise jumped onto the bandwagon and dedicated a unit to explore future possibilities of farming in this direction in hopes of helping Myanmar evolve into a mature and smart agricultural nation.
To date, ASP has successfully initiated contract farming in the Ayeyarwaddy division and West Bago. Another significant milestone was when the company established a new subsidiary, ASP Kubota, in 2019. As one of the authorized dealers of Kubota machinery, ASP Kubota currently operates from four showrooms in Sittwe, Monywa, Lashio and Naunghkio.
Within the next five years, ASP plans to engage contract farming for sugarcane with farmers in the Naypyidaw region. Other plans include the construction of rice mills in Oak Pho and West Bago, the expansion of another ASP Kubota showroom in Kalay, and the expansion of the business to include corn processing services.
For every farmer, harvest is undoubtedly the most important stage, and coincidentally, the busiest time of the year. It’s all-hands-on-deck, full steam ahead, until you realize that you’re unfortunately short on manpower. How do you resolve this issue without having to compromise any of your goals?
